Current Mortgage Rates

Compared to much of New England, homes in Maine are less expensive. These homes have an average list price of only $209,000 and the wide selection of Maine Mortgages Rates make them affordable. Popular areas such as Portland, Bangor and Camden feature homes at a bargain.

Portland has its share of home buyers wondering where are mortgage rates headed. Homes here in the state’s largest city are more expensive, but fixed rate and variable rate mortgages are plentiful. For example, a 30-year fixed mortgage can be obtained for as low as 4.22 percent APR. Also, a 5/1 ARM for a Portland residence can range from 2.91 to 3.32 percent APR.

Metropolitan Bangor’s home prices have remained steady, averaging $149,900. For 30-year fixed mortgages, the range is 4.16 percent to 4.65 percent APR. In comparison, the national rate has averaged 4.54 percent.

The Lewiston-Auburn area has seen an increase in home prices in the last quarter. Homes in Lewiston have averaged for $154,900. Rates of 4.22 to 4.79 percent APR have been noted for 30-year fixed mortgages.

Located south of Lewiston, Brunswick has seen homes listed for an average of $229,000. Maine Mortgages Rates can be inexpensive here, too. A 15-year fixed mortgage here can range from 3.55 to 4.29 percent APR. Meanwhile, 30-year fixed mortgage rates are similar to those of the Lewiston-Auburn area.

Home buyers in Camden who prefer variable rate mortgages can select a 5/1 ARM. Rates for this type of mortgage can be found for 2.97 to 3.32 percent APR. Since the national rate averages out to 3.23 percent, Camden borrowers are among those with access to reduced rates.

Presque Isle, in the northern part of the state, offers homes with an average list price of $134,900. Although this is an increase over the last quarter, the price is still down a few percentage points compared to a year ago. 30-year fixed mortgages have been as low as 4.22 percent and as high as 4.65 percent. However, a 5/1 ARM can be had for a low rate of 2.91 percent.

Buyers in Portland and elsewhere have been asking themselves where are mortgage rates headed. Fortunately, it remains possible to find Maine Mortgages Rates lower than the national average.
